Son of Johann Sebastian, Carl Philip Emanuel -who was called 'the
Bach of Berlin' and was for a long time in the service of King Frederick
II -was also a talented musician. |
Indeed, during his life his popularity was greater than that of his father
both with the general public and with the devotees of the musical world.
His essay on 'The art of keyboard instruments' would help to make him
famous and appreciated by such composers as Mozart and Beethoven. To him,
too, should we attribute the rediscovery of Johann Sebastian, if only
because of the great care with which he conserved the manuscripts and
the teachings of his father.
